Detecting a planted community in an inhomogeneous random graph

چکیده

We study the problem of detecting whether an inhomogeneous random graph contains a planted community. Specifically, we observe single realization graph. Under null hypothesis, this is sample from graph, whereas under alternative, there exists small subgraph where edge probabilities are increased by multiplicative scaling factor. present scan test that able to detect presence such community, even when community very and underlying inhomogeneous. also derive information theoretic lower bound for which shows in some regimes almost asymptotically optimal. illustrate our results through examples numerical experiments.

The Largest Component in an Inhomogeneous Random Intersection Graph with Clustering

Given integers n and m = ⌊βn⌋ and a probability measure Q on {0, 1, . . . ,m}, consider the random intersection graph on the vertex set [n] = {1, 2, . . . , n} where i, j ∈ [n] are declared adjacent whenever S(i)∩S(j) 6= ∅. Here S(1), . . . , S(n) denote the iid random subsets of [m] with the distribution P(S(i) = A) = (m |A| −1 Q(|A|), A ⊂ [m]. For sparse random intersection graphs, we establi...

Random Tensors and Planted Cliques

The r-parity tensor of a graph is a generalization of the adjacency matrix, where the tensor’s entries denote the parity of the number of edges in subgraphs induced by r distinct vertices. For r = 2, it is the adjacency matrix with 1’s for edges and −1’s for nonedges. It is well-known that the 2-norm of the adjacency matrix of a random graph is O( √ n). Here we show that the 2-norm of the r-par...

Path Collapse for an Inhomogeneous Random Walk

On an open interval we follow the paths of a Brownian motion which returns to a fixed point as soon as it reaches the boundary and restarts afresh indefinitely. We determine that two paths starting at different points either cannot collapse or they do so almost surely. The problem can be modelled as a spatially inhomogeneous random walk on a group and contrasts sharply with the higher dimension...

A Novel Approach for Detecting Relationships in Social Networks Using Cellular Automata Based Graph Coloring

All the social networks can be modeled as a graph, where each roles as vertex and each relationroles as an edge. The graph can be show as G = [V;E], where V is the set of vertices and E is theset of edges. All social networks can be segmented to K groups, where there are members in eachgroup with same features. In each group each person knows other individuals and is in touch ...
